Walton County Votes to Keep Confederate Flag Flying

New posts
What about the non-Confederate slave holders? Were they somehow morally superior if they were from the North? How about our founders who owned slaves: Jefferson, Madison, Washington, Hancock, Franklin etc. It is good that you don't consider it a debate regarding the Confederate Monuments and Confederate flags because your hypocrisy would be exposed.

Almost zero of the Confederate soldiers were slave owners. Your attitude regarding those soldiers is at the least misguided but you indeed have the freedom to type out the most heinous sins of our male gender. We should both be ashamed of that so maybe that is our common ground. Where we differ is on the truth of the moral behaviors of those Confederate soldiers versus anyone else from that era including the Northern soldier. They gave their life for your and my freedom from an intrusive government determined to tax their goods and property until they could no longer afford it. Yes they had prejudice but no more than their northern soldier counterpart. Our civil war history is bent around the slavery issue but it does not tell the real story or the whole story. How would you justify the US soldier given the duty to "rid" the country of "savages". You need a diuretic because when you start pissing on graves you will be at it for a while...
Monuments or no monuments people like you still refuse to accept historical fact. The Confederacy was about defending slavery, anything else is secondary written by defenders so stop embarrassing yourself.

Poppaj, thank you for that accurate research but please do not stop there. Take for example the timing of when Grant and other Northern Generals let their slaves go versus Lee and Jackson. Please enlighten us with those facts as well. Are you for removing all monuments and statues of our sinful history also? Just like my advice to leader of nothing you will be at it for a while :)

Please, I know you are smarter than that statement about the cause of the civil war. Be honest. After 911 did you believe in reason of weapons of mass destruction for going to war? Maybe you have superior morality and intellect. Anything is possible.

It is better to be an independent thinker when it comes to politics less you want the power structure to think for you...

Monuments are fine in the correct historical context. The majority of Confederate monuments were erected as a power play to intimidate.

Andersonville Prison seems to be the only Civil War Prison used as a Historical Park. It was where the losers of the Civil War let many Union Soldiers die.

Heritage is a bad thing now huh? Those camps are not part of a "proud" heritage but they are still "heritage". Those marching with Nazi flags are not part of my heritage and are not only from "confederate states". But it seems that they (southern states) are the only ones targeted for destruction. Cultural annihilation is ok when it happens to people of the southern US but ONLY them? Racism/discrimination is not limited to black vs. white. Has anyone gone through the lists of northerners who owned slaves and torn down any of the monuments in those states? Maybe this article can help.....

Provide us a list of monuments built by southerners during the same period that commemorate those who were enslaved.

edit: or monuments to any slave or slaves who fought for freedom against the Confederacy.

Do you speak of the "context" of truth. If so then our gender and race and has a sick history.

Do you speak of the "context" of politics? If so, well then your arguments make sense then.

People dont want to know the part about northerners still owning slaves after the abolition.... they just started calling them "apprentices for life"
