Recently a man at my church (and the father of a girl I've known since toddlerhood) was at home with his wife when they heard a noise outside. He said that he hasn't grabbed his gun in years, but he did that night. He stepped out the back door to look around, turned to his wife and said, "It looks like one of your hanging pots fell."
She told him she didn't have hanging pots, and as she spoke he saw a change in her face. He turned to find a man in a ski mask coming around the corner, firing shots.
My friend ony shot once, but it caught the guy in the face. He had to sit with his gun pointed at this dying man until the police arrived. They think he was on meth.
I've never worried about locking the door. The most valuable thing I have is my piano, and I doubt that anyone is going to tote it out of here. But after that, I changed my mind. You just don't know what these meth-heads are gonna do.
