Camp Helen State Park is bordered on three sides by the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Powell, one of the largest coastal dune lakes in Florida.
Coastal dune lakes are extremely rare worldwide; in the United States they occur only along the Gulf Coast. Prehistoric middens and mounds indicate that humans lived in the area more than 4,000 years ago.
Even though Deer Lake State Park is in the heart of SoWal, right on Scenic 30A between Seagrove and WaterSound Beach, it often goes unnoticed by visitors. But in recent years, as parking and public beach access have become harder to find, our beloved Deer Lake State Park has started hitting the radar of beach lovers.
At SoWal.com, we are committed to helping locals and visitors stay safe while enjoying our beautiful beaches. The beach is such a wonderful place to relax. At the beach, life is beautiful and we slip into a state of mind where we feel comfortable, carefree, and secure. That's what a vacation is all about!
However, the gulf waters can be dangerous and it's important to always put safety first. For detailed information about Beach Safety go here >
Celebrating all that our “30A beach vibe” has to offer - resident musicians, fresh catch seafood, and area artists (check out local legend Bryan Hand’s barroom mural) - Red Fish Taco (RFT) prides itself on delicious food and cocktails, great music, and good times set in a casual yet eclectic atmosphere.

Grayton Beach State Park is one of the most popular state parks in Florida, with massive dunes, winding trails, abundant wildlife, and shimmering 100-acre Western Lake, one of many coastal dune lakes gracing Scenic Highway 30A along Scenic 30A in South Walton (SoWal).

As the old one-story dune cottages of yesteryear disappear, a few are still available to lucky visitors to South Walton. Beach Baby is one of the few that remain on the beach in Seagrove, and holds all the old charm and memories of the SoWal past.

This photo is from July 4th 1979 at the start of the annual parade with ten Jeeps decked out with flags lining up on Hickory Street in Seagrove. The blue Jeep is owned by the woman in the blue bathing suit in the foreground who is Janie Soloman (Marie and Jane’s mom).
