Who will win Florida Governor's race?

New posts
The price of homes like everything else is driven by supply and demand. Here in Walton County, there's a big supply right now, with not enough demand to sustain high prices. The number of foreclosures and short sales has also driven home prices down. My friend bought his house when he moved here. He's very happy with it but his job is taking him to another place. He isn't an idiot, a damn fool or whatever colorful names Leader of the Banned has chosen to call someone he doesn't even know. The "tone" of Leader of the Banned's post is rude and hateful.

Blah, blah, blah......then make my point for me. I didn't say Bush didn't play a part. But to blame Bush solely is stupid. You ONLY talk about the bad that R's do. Other posters here are willing to concede that their party of choice isn't always great. All you ever come back with is more bashing of the right.

At the end of the day, a lot of people made a ton of money off the housing bubble. Then the politicians agreed to let the banks off the hook with our tax dollars.

Holy crap! Can you not comprehend your own post? You even underlined the point I was making. I never solely blamed Bush and I never denied no one else had a hand in it including greedy real estate agents, but you rightwingers keep shifting the facts and the fact is no one took as much credit for the housing market as GW Bush did. Blah, blah, blah all you want, it still doesn't change factual history.
Look where all the trend lines were heading when you helped elect this clown and where they were when his eight years were up. Yea right, blah, blah, blah is about the most intelligent thing can say about it isn't it?

No one took as much credit? You so funny. Blind loyalist that you are, try this:

From that right wing rag, The Village Voice:

Andrew Cuomo, the youngest Housing and Urban Development secretary in history, made a series of decisions between 1997 and 2001 that gave birth to the country's current crisis. He took actions that—in combination with many other factors—helped plunge Fannie and Freddie into the subprime markets without putting in place the means to monitor their increasingly risky investments. He turned the Federal Housing Administration mortgage program into a sweetheart lender with sky-high loan ceilings and no money down, and he legalized what a federal judge has branded "kickbacks" to brokers that have fueled the sale of overpriced and unsupportable loans. Three to four million families are now facing foreclosure, and Cuomo is one of the reasons why.
What he did is important—not just because of what it tells us about how we got in this hole, but because of what it says about New York's attorney general, who has been trying for months to don a white hat in the subprime scandal, pursuing cases against banks, appraisers, brokers, rating agencies, and multitrillion-dollar, quasi-public Fannie and Freddie.

But wait, there's more. From another group of your fellow travelers, Time Magazine:

President Clinton's tenure was characterized by economic prosperity and financial deregulation, which in many ways set the stage for the excesses of recent years. Among his biggest strokes of free-wheeling capitalism was the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which repealed the Glass-Steagall Act, a cornerstone of Depression-era regulation. He also signed the Commodity Futures Modernization Act, which exempted credit-default swaps from regulation. In 1995 Clinton loosened housing rules by rewriting the Community Reinvestment Act, which put added pressure on banks to lend in low-income neighborhoods. It is the subject of heated political and scholarly debate whether any of these moves areto blame for our troubles, but they certainly played a role in creating a permissive lending environment.

We seem to be losing sight of the fact that traditionally a president's role is enforcing laws and guiding some legislation through. Signing a bill into law doesn't mean a president did it all by himself.......of course except when presidents bypass congress and issue executive orders. Some presidents are more effective than others at persuading congress to act and it's easier when congress and the president are of the same party. Presidents don't always see themselves as kings.

Let's take just take the modern era so you will have an easier time providing us with equal examples from the past of the extreme level of bit*hing the Conservatives are doing in the present.

Why is it that some cannot realize it is not the number of executive orders that were used by President but, rather, how they were used? They are meant to support legislation and laws, not to make law.

So now you're an expert in constitutional law?

You nailed it. What's the executive all about? I don't think an executive order should be used as a tool to circumvent the role of congress regardless of which party a president belongs to.

The only major difference between past and present executive orders is the Tea Party now exists. Teabaggers have taken control of the G.O.P. and Boehner is too weak to defy them.
