The Magnet

Beach Fanatic
As someone coined the other day, the magnet (TWC's Jim Cantore) ended up in the worst hit area. For those who haven't heard, he was broadcasting from Gulfport near a Veteran's Home. They were at 27 feet above sea level. From last night's conversations, everyone there seemed to feel they were safe.

They just had a phone conversation with Jim's producer and the surge had come over whatever was protecting the area. TWC's truck and rental cars washed away and everyone had to take cover in the Veteran's Home. The producer said water was coming into the building and everyone (veteran's, some in wheel chairs, under medical care, etc) was being moved to the 2nd floor. The producer, whose name I think was Simon Templeton, commented that just while he was making his report, the water had risen several inches.

Oh my gosh...Is Jim ok!

I had a feeling Kimmi would respond to that!! He's like "The Unsinkable Molly Brown", but isn't he still married?

Panama City CH 13's weather man in yellow. This picture was taken with a few poster girls' obsession with the weather men. This was taken this morning at Blue Mtn Beach. :D Chris (I think) is no Jim Cantore or Mike Bettes, but... he is reporting on the weather.:D

*GASP* Are those sand dunes they are standing on??

I have mixed feelings about TV weather peeps. It's ironic sometimes to listen to reporters and newscasters ridiculing locals for choosing to ride it out, insinuating their stupidity, all while tromping through the streets with their cameras, to proclamations of unending bravery and courage. :idontno:

The sand on which they are standing is the tons of imported sand at the public access at the south end of Hwy 83, Blue Mtn Beach. If all of the orange sand had not been removed, we would be calling Blue Mtn Beach, Orange Beach, not to be confused with Orange Beach, AL. There was a lot more sand at that location two days ago.

They definitely got the "orange sand" out of there in the nick of time. I'd hate to think of that stuff being spread all over the panhandle.
