Things have slowly built back a little bit in 10 years but I think it's mostly cosmetic. I fear we have no more ability to handle even small storms. Which means any storm is a bad storm. Even if it doesn't erode dunes, which I fear any size storm will in the state we're in, it will leave us with lowered sand levels and wide open to a storm that follows.

I Hope I'm wrong.

Governor Rick Scott is declaring a state of emergency as Tropical Storm Erika churns in the Caribbean.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami predicts Erika could hit South Florida early Monday morning and travel up the center of the state.

The order gives Division of Emergency Management Director Brian Koons wide powers and puts the National Guard on alert.

Scott is also authorizing the state Department of Transportation to lift all tolls ahead of any possible evacuation.

Depends on the surge which isn't related to intensity.
Good to see you back, Matt. It isn't just the surge it is also the direction of the surge. The direction of the surge during Dennis was unpresedented on BMB.
