Treasury secretary Janet Yellen says seven trillion in taxes is going uncollected.

That’s not the shocking part.

Humphreys County, Mississippi, where the median annual household income is just $26,000, is the most audited county in America.
The five counties with the highest audit rates are all predominantly African American, rural counties in the Deep South.
These people do not have accountants and tax attorneys.

This has to change

Maybe we stop letting large corporations get away with rampant tax dodging too. It makes no sense to go after the small fish when way more tax could be collected if the IRS focused on the real money.

You are correct but we have allowed corporations inside the hen house and they have eaten all the hens, the rooster, the eggs, the feed, and the bedding. It's a good thing they also like blood because we still have some left in our bodies for them to suck out. See healthcare costs and $7.25 minimum wage come to mind.

I googled “Humphrey County, Mississippi and tax audit” and the article I clicked through to had as its subject a 58 year old man with 5 dependent children and ”many other foster children throughout the years” . I don’t find it odd that that should draw extra looks at “tax” time. Maybe one day UNICEF will get into the tax preparation business but until then H&R Block might be the guys to see. Cough up a couple hundred of the $7,000 plus eitc credit received to have ones i’s dotted and t’s crossed. Particularly when one isn’t actually paying any income tax like this fellow. Race and culture are often conflated, this seems like a low income, high reproduction, low understanding issue, in this guys case, rather than audited for being black.

It’s affecting poorer Americans at a higher rate than others and African Americans make up a large percentage of that group.
Here is some more reading.

I think you are deflecting and I think I understand why. I agree with you that politics is causing us all to deflect, conflate, defend, attack etc. The real issue behind most of our problems right now is division. We just do not see things clearly anymore. Yes you are right and the other side of this issue is right but we will never agree and never see the real truth until we stop with our political and social dependencies.
