Open dune lake rollcall

New posts
As of the time of this post, Western, Alligator and Little Redfish are all open. I am thinking Oyster may have opened, but am not sure about that. Did Camp Creek open?

Eastern Lake opened about two or three days ago and is still open.

Camp Creek Lake is about to burst, I really hope it does soon! At the moment it's higher than I've ever seen it. Last week it was down lower than it has been in months, about 6" over the top of our dock. Now it's about 16" over the dock, and our last two steps down to the shore are submerged. I am sure a good part of the Watersound walkways are under water too, parts of them were earlier this week. The outlet is actually open, has been for months, but it's not deep enough to allow much water to flow, I think because there's so much new sand from the storms last summer.

If you look at aerial images of Camp Creek lake it appears to be wanting a new outlet. I think the historical outlet has been monkeyed up by the development around it.

there were about 6 trucks, 1 front end loader, and about 15 people at oyster lake outflow yesterday. Oyster lake is ill and stuck in litigation...It needs some community support to get legislators to understand the situation the lake is in.

Oyster will have trouble opening because of all the huge sand bags added on the South side of 30-A ont he Western bank. The outflow was eroding out under the home on 30-A and so the bags got added. Then up went the sand fences and it has been gaining sand and height ever since making a big dam for Oyster to have to get through.
When it does blow, it will be interesting to see what it does to all those bags.

Camp Creek Lake is open. It is one of the lakes in SoWal where the adjacent development has not changed the natural course. But it has gotten choked with sand and man-made debris after storms. Right now the "natural" level of the lake is higher than it used to be. The outflow had to find a new course a several hundred yards to the east before opening to the gulf. It will be interesting to see if any docks are high enough to be usable.

Here is a photo of the Camp Creek outflow yesterday.
