John Prine RIP

New posts
So sad to hear of John Prine’s death due to complications from Coronavirus. I heard him at 30A Songwriters Festival in 2017 and again this past January. He was an otherworldly talented, humble man. This year he played a more than full set for us in the pouring rain. He said “We’re gonna stay and play in the rain as long as you’re willing to sit there in the rain and listen”. And he did. The sweetest moment was when Tanya Tucker surprised him by showing up on stage in disguise to sing Angel from Montgomery with John. She clearly adored him. She said she could now die happy having had that experience. His wife and son also joined him on stage. My favorite John Prine song, ironically, is Please Don’t Bury Me. What’s yours?

Our PBS/KET station has a repeat of his Austin City Limits concert the Saturday after Easter. Maybe you can find it on line somewhere. Sam Bush was born not too far away. So was Bill Monroe. Western Kentucky. Ellen

30A Songwriters Festival:

Our hearts are broken, and we know we are not alone. We are all better humans for knowing, hearing and loving John Prine. There was and is no one like him.

When word came that John Prine was going to be here in our taproom, we were incredibly honored and beside ourselves with excitement. The larger-than-life storyteller, who wrote life’s soundtrack for so many of us, was coming to our home! The gift that we received from John & his family that night will be cherished forever. He was an incredibly humble man who offered story & perspective to the world that will never be replaced or forgotten. Our thoughts & prayers go out to the Prine family & friends. What a treasure he was.

It’s hard to make sense of anything right now but this feels too soon. Rest in paradise @john_prine This painting inspired by, “Angel from Montgomery” was on display while he was performing at 30a songwriters festival.
