I think no one wants the job because they think Geitner will be thrown under the bus. There are currently 17 senior aide positions open.
I said that when the scandal erupted. Wall Street couldn't have been happier he was brought down. Spitzer would have looked over the AIG and Merrill contracts before handing money over.
Instead now, we've got Cuomo, NY's Attorney General, playing mafiosa politics threatening to expose the names of those who received bonuses if the don't return them. He said and I was shocked: "The Democratic attorney general said he did not intend to release the names of people who agreed to return their bonus payments. "My intention today is if a person returns the money, I don't believe there's a public interest in releasing the names," Cuomo said.
"People who do return the money, they would no longer be on our list."
At least Spitzer pointed out the laws that enabled the crisis in lieu of political school yard bullying like Cuomo. I do not agree with the bonuses, but to make the names of these people public is reprehensible.
Yes, we should be angry, but more so with partisan bickering and our elected officials jockeying to be in front of the camera making believe they are doing something important to protect their constituency.
But as Shakespeare wrote in ?Lear?: ?This is the excellent foppery of the world, that, when we are sick in fortune ? often the surfeits of our own behavior ? we make guilty of our own disasters, the sun, the moon, and the stars.?
