I work with these guys and go to JP often. They would eat the bonito before it hit the water.

The captain I go fishing with says he has a Japaneese group that he takes out every year and they eat the first fish on the boat as soon as it hits the deck. Talk about fresh sushi! It's still moving

It taste good that way. It is similar to eating corn while it is attached to the stalk and still growing. It just doesn't get any better anywhere. Give me a little fresh fish, pickled ginger, and soy sauce, and I will let you fish the rest of the day.
