Representative Gaetz as Ag Commissioner

Matt Gaetz says GOP establishment is ‘in shambles’ and is running from Donald Trump

Representative Gaetz expresses that the Republican Leadership is in shambles although the Republican base is intact and angry. My question is this, out of the 161 million people who voted in the Presidential election, how many of them are the base for either party?
I know some of my fellow posters may disagree with my assumptions, but I don't think everyone who voted for President Biden or President Trump would be considered their base. I think most have varying views and they vote based on who is going to represent them better. I voted twice for President Obama and the primary reasons were healthcare, wars and Gitmo. I voted 3rd party because I didn't have confidence in Secretary Clinton and President Trump and he didn't disappoint in why I didn't vote for him. Trust me I was not a huge Fan of Governor Johnson either but I wasn't not going to vote. Finally, I think also the hysteria in messaging attracts/sways a large contingent to go one way or the other and then the I have always voted, insert part here, crowd. Many of my friends were Trump supporters and we were able to remain friends. In many ways I still don't know how they bought into it but it was their choice. When they ask why I voted for President Biden I tell them I couldn't vote for President Trump. My thought is there are more of me, Independent, Moderate voters who carry the flag for the winners than there are of the base. The base might donate money, the base might attend rallies, the base might spread the signs of the candidate to attempt to sway me but I am not the base of the party. Point is Politicians seeking my vote, I am not anyone's base. My positions are mine. If you are the guy who wants my vote then you better be closer to the middle.

Yes I agree and share your sentiments. The division in our two party system is toxic. If you are not part of the base in one of those parties then you are nothing is how it works. So I choose nothing. My base is human decency and either a candidate measures up to that or they do not get my vote. The further we get from the middle the further we get from human decency in my opinion. Moderation is the key to a good life. Moderation is the key to a sustainable future on this planet. We simply need more choice in our elections. When my family ask me why I supported Joe Biden a career politician over a successful business man I respond by asking them to remember what it said in the bible about the love of money being used for evil. Joe Biden did not come from money and Donald Trump did and that is where it all started for me and my choice of President. Joe Biden learned from a less than modest early life. Donald Trump was given money and privileges. Why my family supported Donald Trump is still somewhat of a mystery. I really believe Fox News and religion distracted them from seeing the truth. My mom said that God used ruthless kings to be a warrior against those that reject God's truth. I told her that there is a reason why there is a "New" and "Old" testament. Following the path of Jesus conflicts with following the path of a ruthless King. So everything comes down to a choice that will have consequences. I then tell my mom that the consequences are now obvious and so it is time to face them. I do not know if she or any Trump supporter is ready to face those consequences. As you say "all we can do is hope"!

You need to tell them to cease with the successful businessman narrative. trump has proven time and again he is a failure with none more evident than the way in which he completely destroyed his and his grifting offspring’s brand while president.
Any normal person would exit the Presidency with unlimited financial prospects, but not this lying ahole. He has banks, law firms, accounting firms, city contracts and more fleeing his brand like, as he would say, “nobody has ever seen before.” And no one deserves it more.

Yet 50 million "dumbasses" believe his lies about the election. Please explain how and why that many people believe in him?

Agree they are dumbasses and to quote LOTB:

“I'm not a mental health professional. There is nothing I can do for them.”

You can also say that every human has some form of mental illness so that response does not get anything done. Why do 50 million plus people believe that Donald Trump won the election but for voter fraud? If your answer is because they are all dumbasses then you will need to qualify the definition of what constitutes a dumbass. For example is a person a dumbass for voting without perfect information?

You are part of the problem if you write off 50 million people including your daughter in law. Don't be part of the problem. Be part of a solution. It will feel better to be kind and respectful to all people even those 50 million who happen to be on this forum and very likely your friends and neighbors. We all reap what we sow.

Society has failed to educate them, take care of their physical and mental health, and allowed many to exist in addiction, poverty and ignorance. Seems to be the GOP game plan for many decades.

There is plenty of intolerance from the left on this forum including "management". Especially, but not exclusively, in the lounge.
