Places to stay Birmingham area

Can anyone recommend a good hotel to stay in between Birmingham and Montgomery, would like to drive half way due to the fact we will have the dog with us and need a place that allows pets, I think most do now. Anyway, since most of our drive involves Interstate 65 South I will be looking around there. Has anyone stayed at the Days Inn in Clanton, AL? It is just under a 5 hour drive to there, want to break our trip up into 2 days. The hotel looks nice but I read just 3 reviews and 2 were not good, but these reviews were from 2006 and 2009, nothing current. Thanks so much.

Last time I went to Bham my company put me up at the La Quinta Inn on State Farm Road, just off lakeshore behind Landry's. It was ok and they allowed pets. Keep in mind that morning traffic between Alabaster and Bham is a nightmare. Might be better end a day in Bham rather than start out fighting the traffic for two and a half hours just to get going.

Hey bluemtnrunner, are they right off of Interstate 65? We would not have to leave too early since it would be a halfway drive. Could wait up until later in the day. You stated it was ok, I just would like a very clean room and a good working ac.

Not sure when you are going but they are doing lots of road construction on I-65 between Birmingham and Montgomery. A one hour drive took us over 3 hours last week seems they are doing most of the work in the evening hours.

We have stayed in Hoover many times, lots of nice hotels, or we go on and drive to Prattville, we like both areas very much.

Minnie, it will be August 26th when we will be spending the night in Birmingham, that is a while away. I found the Drury Inn in Southwest Birmingham to be a good choice, off of I-65 on State Farm Rd.! Hopefully things will be done by then.

The la Quinta is right next to the drury and yes clean rooms and bathrooms and cold ac and continental breakfast.
Don't look for the construction to be done any time soon in Bham area. It's been going on forever already. Traffic in general has gotten more insane.
I don't miss living there at all.

bluemtnrunner, how far down in Birmingham is the Drury Inn and La Quinta Inn? Is it before the construction possibly? And we really need to head over to 231 and usually Montgomery is where we picked it up the time or two we went that way, any other way to pick it up?

Anything in Birmingham or even Hoover is before the construction which is past Hoover but before Prattville. You can take non interstate highways out of Birmingham.

Heading south it is before the construction.

Minnie what would you recommend that will get us over toward 231 some way? Thanks.
