Shakesville: Hold Onto Your Floppy Disks, Nerdz!

The Commodore 64 is coming back! You heard me right, the C-64 is back in production. And it's no April Fool's joke. (I don't think?) It's even better now, with more than double the 64kb of RAM that the original had! Woot! Other upgrades include USB ports, Intel Atom D525 1.8Gz Dual Core CPU, a DVD drive (unless you upgrade to the Blu-Ray? option), and up to 1TB of storage space.

Preorders are now being taken at the manufacturer's website with anticipated delivery between mid-May and early June. Pricing ranges between $250 and $900, depending on options.

This is spectacular!
The geek in me rejoices... and wonders where I can pre-order... :funn:
The Commodore is almost as cool as my old Nixdorf "laptop"...

For those of you who don't remember THAT baby, that little keyboard flipped up and attached to form a cover over the screen... and it had a terrific leather carrying handle for maximized portability! :floor:
You could play a great game of (orange and black) Hangman on it, though...

I originally had a C64 and I actually purchased the Ankh I still wear with my first paycheck due to playing Ultima 4 on it. I then upgraded to the C128 with it's amazing extended basic. I actually wrote a cross compiler for it that ran machine code on the z80 chip inside it which was twice as fast as the 6502 normally used. The only problem is the video system couldn't keep up and it ran only with a blank screen. lol I then went with a Commodore Amiga 500 and it's amazing graphics for the time! So many fond and geeky memories! ;)

Ah, Dougie! You make me LOL...

And, speaking of LOLing... clicky the linky and read the comments section of the article. That gave me quite the fit of giggles...

You can pre-order it through the website. They are doing a cross promotion with the release of Tron on DVD. :funn:

My first computer was a Tandy that used a standard TV for a monitor and had a mini tape recorder to run programs and save files. Oh and a printer that only did type and sounded like a jack hammer.

 Of course they are! :floor:

Oh, I wasn't doubting--I just think it's funny. I can picture the marketing team sitting back in a boardroom somewhere going, "Okay. Where can we optimize exposure to geeks with disposable income? Bam! Tron DVD release! It's such a no-brainer!"

Okay Kit, confiscate Scooterbug's secret decoder ring! She must have faked nerdiness to get in the club! *gasp*
