You Used to Play What Musical Instrument?

One of the music stores by us is launching a Christmas charitable fund drive of sorts, collecting all the instruments people used to play that are now dusty and forgotten in the attic. The recipients are local schools.

So which instrument is yours? I used to play clarinet and then my sister 'inherited' it before it was finally and unregretfully given away. Philippa has a piano and the men in the family are tone-deaf (or so it seems ;-)).

Alto and Tenor Saxophone. Played Soprano a little bit in jazz band my senior year, but Tenor was my main one. I played Alto for marching band. Most days I'd end up playing all three at some point. Too many to keep track of, but I loved it so much.

Me, piano lessons from 6 yo to 13 yo and stopped when I was too cool for classical. Then I started playing the violin when daughter was doing Suzuki in the second grade. I now play in the church strings group, plus *paid* gigs here and there. I'm not very good, but I enjoy it.

Daughter is an outstanding violinist -- started playing in an adult symphony orchestra at age 11 -- the conductor didn't know she was that young because she was 5'11" tall then. A professor at Columbus State University took her on at age 11 because she is so good -- his students frequently end up at Juilliard. She has played at numerous weddings, receptions, church services, and even in a quartet at a private party for former President Jimmy Carter.

Hubby started playing bass violin about the time I started playing violin. He also plays in the church strings group, is not very good, but enjoys it.;-)

When daughter was a participant in the Georgia Governor's Honors Program, she was a math major and a music minor. She decided that she wanted to learn to play the guitar. Well, we spent about $2000 for a guitar that she has touched about 5 times (Governor's Honors took up *way* more time than she anticipated). I really need to sell that thing on eBay -- too pristine to donate. I do have a "school" violin that I should look into donating locally. There is certainly plenty of need in this town.

You should see our living room, which we now call the music room. A big bass violin, three violins, a grand piano, a guitar, bows everywhere, three music stands, metronomes, electronic tuners, spare strings, piles of sheet music, hymnals, etc.

Piano for years

Violin for a very short time - I learned "twinkle, twinkle, little" but never got the "star" - and it made the dog howl!

French horn for a couple years - until they realized I was tone deaf

Percussion - loved the variety - cymbals, timpani, snare, bass, marimba, then it was determined that I had no sense of rhythm either!

ditto here. Ours is no longer a living room either. Except my sons sheet music is never in piles - it's strewn across most surfaces. Then he's majorly panicked when it's time to find what he needs.
