Loved Blow.

one of mr. dd's faves is Barfly. I was ready to slit my wrists after it, but he still loves it.

I liked these too.

Spun was really something. Mickey Rourke "The Cook" is just awesome. love all his movies - even the crappy ones.

I could never decide if I liked pulp fiction or not. when walking out of the theater, I couldn't help but think "that was totally effed up and unnecessary." but, it kind of grows on you. I've seen it several times since. it still makes me feel weird.

johnr - I've never seen Days of Wine and Roses... is it a good 'un?

I lost all desire to go into pawn shops after Pulp Fiction.
Yeah, that was pretty much the grossest scene in the movie, more gross than when they blew the guys brains out in the back seat of the car. Actually that was funny in a sick sort of way. Especially when they were washing their hands:

Jules: What did you do to the towel?
Vincent: I was dryin' my hands.
Jules: You're supposed to wash 'em first.
Vincent: You watched me wash 'em.
Jules: I watched you get 'em wet.
Vincent: I was washing 'em. But this stuff's hard to get off. Maybe if I had Lava or something, I coulda done a better job.
Jules: I used the same blankin' soap you did and when I got finished, the towel didn't look like no blankin' Maxi-Pad.

Yikes! What a horrible experience! So sorry.

The part where he said "You have got one life to live, you better throw me your purse now and don't look back" was a real life scariest drug induced thing that ever happened to me! I'm very sure he was a crack head. I couldn't fathom how someone could stick a gun at a pregnant women's belly unless they were wasted on drugs or about to be wasted on drugs. The even sadder thing was I was with my 11 year old niece. I snatched her purse and mine, threw at him and panicked. Combined, we had about 3 dollars in our purses. My keys were in there with our address written on it ( we had just moved that week and my niece was there to help me) We lived 2 blocks from there and I was afraid he was going to come after us. After a police showed up, he thought the guy was still on foot, so we had a police chase through Cabrini Green, until I said "I think I'm in labor. He then turned the car around, and sped through Chicago to get us to the hospital. My niece went through all of this with me and had to go in the L & D room because I was afraid for her to be alone.
That was my welcome to Lincoln Park in Chicago!

oh supermom, that is such a terrible experience! i cannot begin to imagine it. you did the right thing throwing your purse - I don't know if I could even move given the same situation.

I did freeze. I think most people would. I know I said "you have got to be kidding me." Truly, the moment seemed to last for eternity. It wasn't till he ran behind us and said don't look back, that I thought it really happened. A contractor with a cell phone across the street called the police; they came within 5 minutes. God took care of us. For a moment, all I could think of was the song "Wild, Wild West!" Who comes running around a corner in broad daylight like they are jogging and pulls out a gun? "Wild Wild West!" Crazy! I love my niece so much. I was so sorry for her to have this happen. Here's the craziest thing of all: She identified the kind of gun it was! A policeman had come to their school to talk about safety and guns a few months back and she was able to say what it was! I said it was gray! I think I focused on his face - that's what I think bothered him that I didn't move quickly enough, the longer I was frozen, the greater the chance to identify him!
I hated that this happened to me. It incapacitated me for the longest time. We only lived there for a year before we moved back to Michigan. Maybe if it didn't happen, we would have stayed in Chicago and I might not have made it here. So, believe me - I count my blessings in a lot of ways!
Sorry to hijack your thread Kurt! Drugs do crazy things to you!

Back to Pulp Fiction not Pulp Non-Fiction!

Spun was a realistic glimpse into the lives of meth addicts, and it was so horrible to watch. nothing glamorous about it. to think so many people have given their lives over to such a drug. I learned some from this movie about meth, and hope young people can watch it and learn too.

So sorry this had to happen to you and your neice. I'm somewhat familiar with Linclon Park and it is definately a very nice area of the city. I would've been totally freaked out and I would never have thought Lincoln Park, in broad daylight no less! It would be so hard for me to keep from looking over my shoulder after that.

Leaving Las Vegas - even though the drug was alcohol. Most depressing movie I have ever seen. I wanted to walk out but I kept hoping it would get better. SAD - because it was based on a true story!

My thoughts exactly. I think because the drug was alcohol makes it even more depressing and thought-provoking. We probably all know people that literally drank themselves to death.
